I think its pretty insulting and going too far to say that they didn't try. At the end of the day the devs down on the ground and likely doing their best to put out a solid product, even if the powers to be are being counterproductive to that end.

The issue isn't balance, it's the that there were no strong vehicle specific roles aside from throwaway transport, and any other roles were basically duplicates of things infantry already did...and typically they did it better making vehicles more...

Personally I'd much rather have a proper manufacturing system rather than objects poofing into existence from magical blue squares Either way I got plenty of mileage out of all my BPOs already. If they went away I wouldn't be upset.
